Sky Germany reports that Borussia Dortmund winger Cole Campbell will join Hoffenheim on loan for the rest of the season.

The move is a six-month loan with a fee of €1.5 and if Hoffenheim decides to activate the purchase option in the agreement, then the complete value of the deal can rise to €10m, with the purchase option being worth at least €7m. It is said that if Campbell also does feature regularly for Christian Ilzer’s side, the loan fee will be reduced.

The US youth international will travel to Hoffenheim’s winter training camp in Girona from die Schwarzgelben’s current camp in Marbella.

This season, the 19-year-old has only played 16 minutes for the Dortmund first team, and with the World Cup in his native USA this summer, he will look to maximise his chances of making it into the squad. In recent weeks, Campbell has also faced disciplinary issues with head coach Niko Kovac

Campbell nearly left Dortmund last summer, with it looking like he would move to VfB Stuttgart, but the move ended up collapsing.

How can Hoffenheim use the Dortmund winger?

The USA youth international can play on either wing, which means he can offer himself as a backup option to Bazoumana Toure, and with the Ivorian still at the Africa Cup of Nations, Campbell could be given the chance to prove himself in the Bundesliga upon its return.
