Botafogo have appointed Tite, formerly of Flamengo, on a contract running to December 2028. The club said in a statement that assistants Matheus Bachi and fitness coach Fábio Mahseredjian will join, supported by the in-house staff, with Rodrigo Bellão added to the group.

The General Severiano side had been searching for a new coach since Franclim Carvalho’s dismissal in August, with Bellão acting as interim. The first face-to-face meeting with Tite was on Monday 14, talks intensified and the deal was finalised on Wednesday 16.

Tite takes over a team already out of the Copa do Brasil and the Sudamericana, and battling to avoid the drop. Botafogo are 14th in the Brasileirão on 32 points and are winless in four league matches.

He arrived at Flamengo in October 2023 to replace Jorge Sampaoli, his first job after leaving the Brazil national team. In charge of the Mengão he managed 68 games with 41 wins and lifted the Carioca title. Following a poor run, including Libertadores elimination by Peñarol of Uruguay, the club ended his tenure and promoted Filipe Luís.

His most recent post was Cruzeiro, where he led 17 matches, winning eight with three draws and six defeats. Announced in December 2025, he was dismissed in March 2026 after a poor start in the Brasileirão. Meanwhile, Leonardo Jardim’s Flamengo host Independiente del Valle on Thursday 17 at 21:30 Brasília time at the Maracanã in the Libertadores quarter-final second leg.
