Botafogo’s black shield bearing a white five-point star has been named the most beautiful crest in Brazilian football by a jury of 66 designers. According to Globo.com, 80 badges were rated from one to 10, producing 5,280 scores.

Botafogo topped the list with a 7.95 average, received the most 10s, 23, and was the only crest with just one score of 1. America-RJ placed second on 6.95 with eight 10s, Vasco third on 6.86 with five 10s.

Completing the top 10 were Cruzeiro, Internacional, Flamengo, São Paulo, Juventus-SP, Grêmio and Fluminense.

Designer Mario Leite said the best crests work as strong logos, where symbolism, identity, colour balance and clear reading count. He felt Botafogo stands out for the star’s symbolism and directness, and noted originality, which did not favour Botafogo-PB.

Ricardo Hippert praised America-RJ’s badge as simple yet sophisticated, with Art Deco-style typography that follows its round shape, evokes tradition and applies well across products.

Flamengo designer Marcelo Gluz still awarded Vasco a 10, highlighting the caravel with the Cross of Malta, the wavy sea and the diagonal element, which he judged powerful symbolically and visually. At the other end, São Bernardo finished last on 2.49, ahead of Floresta-CE on 2.51 and Maranhão on 2.55. Among Série A clubs, Mirassol fared worst on 2.80, then Chapecoense on 3.65 and Athletico-PR on 4.46, which drew 13 ones as its most common rating. In Série B, Náutico led on 5.45, and in Série C, Santa Cruz topped with 5.43.
