The Vitality Stadium plays host to an intriguing early kick-off on Saturday as one of the Premier League’s most consistent sides, Bournemouth, looks to deepen the misery of a sliding Sunderland.
The Cherries enter this fixture in high spirits, currently enjoying a seven-game unbeaten run that has kept them firmly in the hunt for European qualification. Andoni Iraola’s men have moved into eighth place, just seven points behind the top five, following a resilient 0–0 draw with West Ham last weekend. If they avoid defeat here, they will equal their longest unbeaten streak of the season.
Sunderland, meanwhile, travel to the South Coast aiming to halt a concerning decline in form. Régis Le Bris’s side has fallen to three consecutive defeats, as many as they had in their previous 12 league matches. While the promoted side has overperformed significantly this term—sitting 12th with 36 points—the Black Cats must find a way to rediscover their energy levels as they navigate a mounting injury crisis in the final third of the campaign.
The Cherries will be without influential midfielder Lewis Cook, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury until at least the March international break. Justin Kluivert, Ben Gannon-Doak, and Julio Soler also remain out of contention. However, Tyler Adams has returned to full fitness and is expected to start after coming through last weekend’s match unscathed.
Régis Le Bris is managing a severely depleted squad with several key players ruled out. Romaine Mundle and Jocelin are facing lengthy spells on the sidelines, while Nordi Mukiele and Brian Brobbey are expected to be out for two to four weeks. Dennis Cirkin and Reinildo also remain unavailable. In better news, Bertrand Traoré has returned to full training, and captain Granit Xhaka is back in contention to start.
Bournemouth have become a formidable force in 2026, with only Manchester United currently on a longer unbeaten run in the division. The Cherries recently played out a 0–0 draw with West Ham, following a clinical 2–1 victory over Everton. Notably, while their games have seen more goals than any other side this term (88), they have also recorded a joint-most three goalless draws. Their home form remains strong, having collected seven points from the last nine available at the Vitality Stadium.
The Black Cats have hit their most difficult patch since regaining their top-flight status, suffering three straight losses against Arsenal, Liverpool, and, most recently, a 3–1 defeat to Fulham. Notably, Sunderland have struggled significantly on the road, winning just two of their 13 league games away from home while scoring a league-low six goals. Despite this wobble, they remain in a comfortable mid-table position with a healthy 11-point buffer over the relegation zone.
Bournemouth Predicted XI: Petrovic; Jimenez, Hill, Senesi, Truffert; Adams, Scott; Rayan, Kroupi, Adli; Evanilson
Sunderland Predicted XI: Roefs; Geertruida, Ballard, Alderete, Hume; Sadiki, Xhaka; Talbi, Le Fee, Angulo; Isidor
The match will be televised live in the UK on TNT Sports 1. Coverage begins at 11:30 GMT ahead of the 12:30 kick-off.
