Edoardo Bove is undergoing a medical with Watford in England on Monday afternoon, the final step before a free transfer.
According to Football Italia, the 23-year-old is set to join on an initial six-month deal until the end of the 2025-26 season, with a potential long-term option to extend.
The midfielder has been out of action since collapsing during Fiorentina’s Serie A match against Inter at the Stadio Artemio Franchi just over a year ago. He was on loan from Roma at the time and was rushed to hospital. Doctors later confirmed his heart had stopped, and he subsequently had an internal defibrillator fitted.
Italian regulations bar him from playing professionally while the device remains in place. He can, however, play abroad, including in the UK, a situation mirrored by Christian Eriksen’s move from Inter to Brentford after EURO 2020.
Bove returned to Roma after the incident but has not featured since. He terminated his contract last week, clearing the way for a new club.
Watford sporting director Valon Behrami has said Bove is a serious option, adding that he could be a £25m player and is good enough for any Premier League side.
