Roma have officially announced the mutual termination of Edoardo Bove’s contract, clearing the way for a move to Watford, according to Football Italia. It comes just over a year after the midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest while on loan at Fiorentina.

Bove has not played since he collapsed early in Fiorentina’s Serie A match against Inter on the first of December 2024.

His heart briefly stopped and he was rushed to hospital, where he later had an implanted cardiac defibrillator fitted to regulate his heartbeat.

Italian regulations do not permit athletes with an internal defibrillator to compete professionally, so any return must be abroad. The termination allows him to sign for the Hornets as a free agent.

He is set to sign an initial six-month contract at Vicarage Road, with an agreement already in place over a potential five-year extension running to the summer of 2031.
