Boycott urged against Le Mans after Idrissa Gueye joins as investor | OneFootball

A French anti-discrimination collective has called for a boycott of Le Mans after Idrissa Gueye joined the club’s shareholder group on Wednesday.

In a statement on Thursday, the Collectif national contre l'homophobie, le racisme, l'antisémitisme et toutes les discriminations urged a boycott and called the move a serious ethical breach, stressing that homophobia is a criminal offence rather than an opinion and accusing Le Mans FC of choosing financial cynicism over ethics and republican values because Gueye had publicly rejected anti-discrimination campaigns.

Gueye, 36, has previously declined to wear Ligue 1 rainbow-themed shirts during dedicated rounds.

While at PSG from 2019 to 2022, he did not travel to Montpellier in May 2022 for matchday 37 to avoid wearing the rainbow shirt.

He now plays for Al-Diriyah and has 135 caps for Senegal. An anti-homophobia association had already challenged him at the time.
