Brasileirão clubs back fewer night kick-offs, proposal to go to rights holders | OneFootball

Clubs from Série A and Série B have approved a new match schedule that reduces late kick-offs. The overhaul, part of a CBF push to standardise timings and improve appeal, is slated for 2027.

According to Globo.com, the plan was agreed at a meeting in a Rio de Janeiro hotel and will now be presented to the broadcast rights holders.

In Série A, Sundays would be prioritised, with seven of the 10 weekend fixtures. Games would run between 11:00 and 19:30, with three slated for the traditional 16:00 slot.

Saturdays would feature two windows, 16:00 for two matches and 19:30 for one. Midweek scheduling centres on Wednesday, with six of 10 games across 19:30, 20:30 and 21:30.

Tuesdays and Thursdays would each have a single 20:00 window. A CBF study linked lower attendances to certain kick-off times, notably 19:00 on weekdays and Sunday nights from 20:00.

At Série B clubs’ request, the plan also reduces clashes with Série A, spreading second-tier fixtures more evenly through the week. Sunday 11:00 kick-offs have gained traction, with eight this season averaging 28,884 fans.

To address heat concerns around that slot, the CBF intends to schedule using weekly weather forecasts.
