Valencia CF have appointed Braulio Vázquez as sporting director, bringing him back to the club after a previous spell. He leaves CA Osasuna, where he has overseen the sporting department across the last nine seasons.
According to Superdeporte, the club face a critical moment after a disastrous summer window and have moved swiftly for a profile deeply versed in Spanish football, while Ron Gourlay’s 18-month tenure ends with Valencia bottom on one point from five matches despite earlier pledges to restore European ambitions.
Born in Pontevedra in 1972, Vázquez previously worked within Valencia’s structure before serving as sporting director from 2010 to 2013. He now returns to lead a new sporting setup and will be presented in due course.
At Osasuna he was the senior sporting figure since 2017 and is credited with returning the club to the top flight. His work there yielded strong results in recent years.
Valencia are banking on his experience, knowledge and track record to help in this new phase. His immediate task is to lead the reshaped sporting department.
