Osasuna have appointed José Antonio Prieto ‘Cata’ as sporting director after Braulio Vázquez chose to return to Valencia.
According to AS, Valencia will trigger the €290,000 release clause in Vázquez’s contract after he notified the club of his decision. The move has surprised Pamplona, as he leaves a consolidated project for a club in ongoing crisis in Valencia, a city he regards as a second home.
Vázquez will hold a farewell press conference at El Sadar tomorrow at 13:00. Osasuna thanked him for a successful decade and wished him well for future challenges. Braulio and Cata renewed their contracts in March until 2029.
Cata has served as Osasuna’s professional football technical secretary since 2017. He now steps up to lead the department.
The Galician began coaching with Narón and Racing Villalbés. From 2014 to 2017 he coordinated Valladolid’s academy, where he already worked alongside Vázquez. Since arriving in 2017, the pair delivered promotion to Primera, stable top-flight survival, a Copa runners-up finish and European qualification.
