Brazilian clubs ‘to discuss’ stopping the Brasileirão after betting ban | OneFootball

Brazil’s leading clubs are weighing a Brasileirão stoppage after a provisional measure banned betting. Estadão reports the idea is under debate and aimed at pressuring the federal government.

They want a transition of six months to one year to wind down betting advertising, plus concessions beyond the low-interest credit line previously discussed.

The push extends to the CBF. Sinafut, the National Union of Professional Football Associations, filed on Monday 28 to join Supreme Court actions led by Justice Luiz Fux against Medida Provisória 1.394/2026.

Sinafut asks the court to suspend the measure until Congress deliberates or a ruling is made, or to extend all deadlines by at least six months. Alternatively, it proposes a transition until 31 December 2026 for professional football contracts.

Clubs point to links with the confederation, noting two CBF vice-presidents sit on Sinafut’s board, and that the CBF sold the Brasileirão’s naming rights to Betano.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed the measure on Friday 25. Since then, clubs cannot sign new betting advertising deals, and branding must be removed by 5 October.

Flamengo are among the most exposed, with Betano paying R$ 268.5 million per season under a deal to the end of 2028, and the sponsor has informally signalled it intends to terminate. Club president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, Bap, has put next year’s revenue hit at R$ 400 million.
