Bournemouth have confirmed the signing of Brazil international goalkeeper Neto via the club’s official website.

The 33-year-old joins the Cherries on a free transfer after penning a 12-month deal, becoming the club’s fourth summer signing after Joe Rothwell, Ryan Fredericks and Marcus Tavernier.

Neto’s addition also comes just days after the club announced contract extensions for key players Dominic Solanke and Lewis Cook.

Bournemouth chief executive, Neill Blake, has praised the club’s ability to attract a player of Neto’s calibre after the player signed on the dotted line.

“To be able to attract a player of Neto’s calibre is very pleasing,” he said. “This is a real coup for the club, and we’re delighted he has chosen to join us.

“He has vast experience at the very top level of the game so I’m sure he will be a huge asset for us.”

Neto played second fiddle to the indispensable Marc-Andre ter Stegen after moving to Barcelona from Valencia and was further displaced following Inaki Pena’s emergence.

The Brazilian has now joined Scott Parker’s side looking to play an important part in the club’s aspiration for a Premier League stay this season.

Neto began his career in the youth system of Athletico Paranaense in Brazil. Having racked up 260 appearances during his travels between Brazil, Italy and Spain, he is no stranger to success, winning seven major trophies in that time.

The Brazilian arrives at the Vitality Stadium with a wealth of experience and will be a major boost to Scott Parker’s side this term.

Neto is the latest player to depart Barcelona as the Blaugranas continue their efforts to balance their books.

Bournemouth began their Premier League campaign on a positive note, with a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday, following their promotion from the Championship.
