Betway Premiership side Chippa United have announced the departure of goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali via a mutual agreement.
The 29-year-old goalie signed for the Chilli Boys from Katsina United of Nigeria in the 2022/23 campaign and was in the final six months of his contract in Gqeberha.
Nwabali was eligible to sign a pre-contract with any club of his choice amid growing interest, following eye-catching displays at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The Nigeria international kept four clean sheets in seven games for the Super Eagles at the continental showpiece, helping Eric Chelle's side clinch the Bronze medal.
“Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart the club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release," read the club statement.
"We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated.
"The club wishes Stanley every success in the next chapter of his career and in all his future endeavors.
Foot Africa previously reported that Tanzanian giants Simba SC, coached by South African mentor Steve Barker, have opened talks to sign Nwabali.
The player was also linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs, Queens Park Rangers (QPR), Raja Club Athletic and Al-Ettifaq from Saudi Arabia, but a move never materialized after AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast.
