A monumental shift in the balance of power across the Saudi Pro League has taken shape as star striker Karim Benzema officially swaps Al-Ittihad for rival Al-Hilal.

The 38-year-old former Real Madrid icon moves to Kingdom Arena from Alinma Stadium on a one-and-a-half-year contract after his contract was terminated.

Benzema, who has been enjoying a fruitful period since arriving in the Kingdom at the start of the 2023/24 season, had been in the midst of a contract standoff with Al-Amid before negotiations between both parties collapsed.

With a move to Al-Za'eem guaranteeing Benzema remains in the league, central dealmakers can be happy at the prospect of keeping him in the Saudi Pro League beyond the summer.

Since joining Al-Ittihad, Benzema smashed 57 goals in 87 appearances across all competitions, helping the club secure a league and domestic cup double in 2024/25.
