Plymouth Argyle have seven players falling out of contract at the end of this season, so let's take a look at what might happen with them next.
Plymouth Argyle have seven players falling out of contract at the end of the 2025-26 season. Here's a list of those who could be leaving Home Park for nothing this summer.
With three players in and three players out, the January transfer window was neither exceptionally quiet nor exceptionally busy for Plymouth Argyle, and manager Tom Cleverley can now look forward to the remainder of the 2025-26 season with a reasonably settled squad.
But the summer will come around quickly enough, and at the end of the season the cycle starts again. And with seven players falling out of contract at the end of this season, according to Transfermarkt, it could be a busy time for Argyle. Indeed, the process of deciding their retain and release list for the end of the season will already be well under way.
So with that in mind, let's take a look at the current squad of Plymouth Argyle players, and in particular those who could be leaving the club at the end of this season.

Zimbabwean international Brendan Galloway has had an injury-disrupted five years at Home Park since joining the club on a free transfer after being released by Luton Town in 2021. The midfielder has been unable to play anything like a full season for the club since signing, and the contract extension that he signed in 2024 expires at the end of this season. But his explosive form upon returning from international duties at AFCON, which led to Tom Cleverley describing him as "an absolute warrior", means that he may be in demand at the end of the season.

If there is such a person as "Mr Plymouth Argyle", it may be club captain Joe Edwards. Now in his seventh season at Home Park since signing for them on a free transfer following his release by Walsall in 2019, he remains a regular starter at right-back for them despite having turned 35 in October and has now made over 250 appearances for the club in all competitions.
Edwards has already been preparing for the end of his playing career, with it having been confirmed in June 2025 that he's already completed his UEFA 'A' coaching badge, and he got some practice in as a temporary player-coach when, following the sacking of Wayne Rooney, he was joint charge of the team when they knocked Premier League Bournemouth out of the FA Cup away from home.

Goalkeeper Conor Hazard made national headlines with his clean sheet performance for the Pilgrims in their famous FA Cup win against Liverpool in 2025. The nine-times capped Northern Ireland international signed for the club for an undisclosed fee reported to be in the region of £150,000 from Celtic in 2023. His three-year contract at Home Park expires in the summer and Argyle will surely be keen to extend the goalkeeper's stay with the club.

Joe Ralls had been a free agent since the summer when he signed on a short-term contract for Plymouth in November, and he had this contract extension extended to the end of the season at the very start of the January transfer window. Ralls' 14-year association with Cardiff City ended he was released following their relegation from the Championship, but at 32 years of age he still has several seasons left in him, and with more than 400 appearances under his belt for the Bluebirds, it's likely that this is another player that Argyle will want to keep beyond the end of this season.

Goalkeeper Luca Ashby-Hammond signed for Plymouth on a one-year contract last summer after being released by Fulham, but he's been unable to tie down a regular starting position at Home Park so far this season. But with Conor Hazard's contract also due to expire in the summer, there's a possibility that he could tie down a place as their first choice if his rival for that spot decides to move on. Capped by England at every age level from under-15 to under-20, there's no doubting Ashby-Hammond's potential, but he'll be 25 years old by the end of the season, and his decision over whether to extend his stay at Home Park may come down to whether he can secure more regular first-team football.

There was speculation about the future of midfielder Ayman Benarous at the end of the January transfer, with reports suggesting that Plymouth were open to sending the player out on loan for the remainder of the 2025-26 season in order to get more game-time. This didn't end up happening, but the very fact that Plymouth were looking at the possibility of loaning him out for this reason hints that they could be looking to extend his contract beyond the end of this season.

The third goalkeeper to appear on this list, Zak Baker has been with Plymouth since the age of 11. Baker has spent his senior career either warming the bench at Home Park or out on loan in the non-league game, where he's spent time with Plymouth Parkway and Tiverton Town, and signed an extension to the end of this season with Argyle in April 2025, despite injury. As with Argyle's other out-of-contract goalkeepers, he may be keeping a close eye on the decisions made by his competitors for the number one shirt at Home Park before making any decision about his own future.
