Brennan Johnson has joined Everton on a four-year deal after leaving Crystal Palace, in a move that sees Dwight McNeil head the other way. The Wales forward says he wants to rediscover his best form.

According to The Standard, Johnson’s switch ends a seven-month stay at Palace, having arrived from Tottenham in January.

After a difficult period at Spurs, despite finishing the previous season as their top scorer in all competitions and scoring the Europa League final winner, the Palace move was billed as a fresh start.

At Selhurst Park he struggled for confidence and most of his minutes came when Oliver Glasner rotated his Premier League side. Despite Palace lifting the Conference League in May, he did not score for the club.

From the quarter-finals onwards he played only 30 minutes and was unused as Palace beat Rayo Vallecano 1-0 in the final.

Johnson said he was excited to join a massive club and wanted to be part of it as soon as he heard of the interest. He cited the manager, the players and the team’s direction, and felt it was a good match.

He added that David Moyes had challenged him to recapture previous levels and shown belief in his ability, which he welcomed from such an experienced and successful manager.
