Brentford have completed the signing of Callum Wilson on a free transfer, handing the 34-year-old a one-year deal after his West Ham contract expired.

As reported by The Athletic on 30 June, the club had been in talks with the striker before finalising terms.

Wilson said he spoke with Jordan Henderson, who praised Brentford, and he is grateful and delighted to join. He added a positive discussion with head coach Keith Andrews convinced him he could add quality to the project.

Having faced Brentford often, he likes the togetherness and the forward, early service from midfield, which he feels will create chances for him. Acknowledging 95 Premier League goals, he believes he can reach 100 this season.

Wilson scored seven times in 35 appearances for West Ham last season, when they were relegated to the Championship for the first time since 2011.

Andrews said Wilson increases options in attack and will guide Igor Thiago and Kaye Furo through his experience, bringing a proven eye for goal and know-how around the training ground. The forward previously hit 49 goals in 130 games for Newcastle United, after recording 67 goals and 28 assists in 187 outings for Bournemouth.
