Fábio Carvalho has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury and will be out for the rest of the season.

The attacking midfielder has been seen by a specialist and will now prepare for upcoming surgery to repair the ACL, having already started his rehabilitation at the club.

Carvalho was signed by Brentford from Liverpool in August 2024, and has made 33 appearances for the club in all competitions.

He has played nine times for the Bees this term, scoring three goals.

On Carvalho, Brentford head coach Keith Andrews added: "It's been a tough week for him, it's devastating. He did it around a week ago in training.

"He's someone I have a lot of respect for as a man.

"I have felt for him this season - he hasn't been given as much of an opportunity as we would have ideally liked to have given him. He knows that, and we've been in constant communication about his development and ambitions as a player.

"Unfortunately, that's been taken away from him for a period of time. But we'll support him really well, like we always do. Fábio knows he'll get the support from everyone at the football club, including me, throughout this difficult period."

For the Bees' trip to Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, Josh Dasilva (knee ligament) and Antoni Milambo (ACL) will also be unavailable.

Discussing the current status of his squad, Andrews said: "The boys trained yesterday, the vast majority coming in off their international exploits.

"That can sometimes be difficult: players coming from different time zones and various emotions from the results they had.

"But it was nice to get them all back in the building together for the first time yesterday, and everyone seems in a pretty good place."
