Claims that Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey is set to leave have been dismissed as overstated.

FootballTransfers reported he would depart this summer for around €40 million, approximately £34 million, amid Bayern Munich interest. As it stands, that assertion is wide of the mark.

There is no agreement for Brobbey to leave and no evidence Bayern have submitted an official offer. Suggestions he is on course for an exit do not reflect the current position.

Brobbey arrived from Ajax last summer for around €20 million, approximately £17 million, and signed a five-year contract. He has had an encouraging first Premier League campaign with six goals and an assist, and the club are under no immediate pressure to sell.

A significant offer could change the picture as the summer window approaches, but there is no indication a departure is imminent and no deal is close.

He struck a late winner at St James’ Park against Newcastle United, then followed up with a strong display against Tottenham Hotspur after the international break.

He arrived on deadline day after loanee Marc Guiu returned to parent club Chelsea during an attacking injury crisis, a decision that has since worked in Sunderland and Le Bris’ favour this season.
