Brighton and Hove Albion submit Amex plan for nine heritage walls | OneFootball

Brighton and Hove Albion have submitted plans for a 60-metre heritage display at the Amex, with nine memorial walls proposed to rehouse supporter tiles.

According to TheArgus.co.uk, the free-standing installation would sit on the West Stand concourse and hold replicated tiles for thousands of fans whose stones have deteriorated.

Each wall would be roughly 2.7 metres high and 5.4 metres wide, fixed to the concrete concourse. The application was lodged by stadium operator The Community Stadium Limited.

The move follows an angry backlash in December when the club outlined plans to scrap the physical stones in favour of a digital, interactive wall. More than 3,000 supporters signed a petition, stressing their importance as memorials and markers of club history.

Chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber apologised unreservedly, accepting the strength of feeling and promising that all outdoor tributes would remain at the ground.

He added the club would reproduce every tile, protect them from the elements and install them in a permanent, respectful location.

The original tiles were laid in the concourse floor when the Amex opened in 2011, then moved to a wheelchair ramp opposite the North Stand, where rain and frost left many cracked or faded.

The club will fund manufacture and installation of the replacements and will photograph and catalogue each tribute before any removal.

Planning documents describe the scheme as an artistic uplift for an underused corner of the concourse and note it would not be visible outside the stadium.

Public consultation runs until October 12, with plans viewable under reference BH2026/01983.
