Brighton & Hove Albion have signed Canada forward Promise David on a season-long loan from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise (RUSG). The 25-year-old’s deal includes an obligation to buy for £22 million if certain criteria are met.

David joined the Belgian Pro League side in 2024 and scored 24 goals in his first season, helping them to a first league title in 90 years. Across 82 appearances for RUSG he registered 41 goals and nine assists.

After youth football in Canada and the United States, he moved to Malta in 2022 with Valletta then Sirens. A switch to Nomme Kalju in Estonia brought 30 league goals in 44 games, which led to his RUSG move.

He featured for Canada at this summer’s home World Cup, scoring in the group-stage defeat to Switzerland. He has four goals in 14 senior caps.

Brighton’s sporting director Mike Cave said the club had tracked David, calling him an out-and-out striker with outstanding physical attributes and a record of scoring goals. He added that his international and European experience could be valuable this season and hoped he would continue to develop at the club. David arrives as Brighton adjust to the summer exit of last season’s first-choice striker Danny Welbeck to Chelsea.
