Brighton have signed Algeria left-back Jaouen Hadjam from Young Boys on a five-year contract for a fee of £9.5 million. He arrives aiming to make his mark with Albion.
Sporting director Mike Cave said Hadjam would strengthen their already well-stocked defence. He described him as a modern left-back with pace, attacking output and technical ability, adding that his versatility in Switzerland was clear.
Hadjam featured at this summer’s World Cup. He developed impressively with Young Boys after earlier spells at Paris FC and Nantes.
The new signing’s presentation touched on local flavour, as he posed with a copy of The Argus and enjoyed tea at the city’s North African restaurant and cafe Blue Man.
Born in Paris to Algerian parents, he represented France in youth age groups.
