"Brilliant addition" - Joe Cole wants to see this Tottenham star at Chelsea

Former Chelsea star Joe Cole has urged his former club to sign Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven, describing him as someone who’d be a “brilliant addition”.

Van de Ven has shone at Spurs but the club as a whole have endured two difficult seasons in a row, so it would perhaps make sense for the Netherlands international to look for a move elsewhere.

Chelsea are also a little light of options at the back, so one imagines Van de Ven could easily come in as an upgrade on the likes of Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo.

Cole is a big fan of the 24-year-old, and suspects that he might be unsettled at Tottenham and open to a move for a new challenge.

Joe Cole wants Micky van de Ven transfer for Chelsea

Speaking on the Dressing Room podcast, Cole said: “Micky van de Ven from Tottenham. I think he’s looking like he wants to leave. I think he’d be a brilliant addition for Chelsea.”

It will be interesting to see what happens with Van de Ven in the weeks and months ahead, but a lot of it will surely rest on whether or not Spurs get relegated.

The north Londoners are currently just a point above the bottom three, so they could well be dragged down there in the final few games.

If Tottenham were to end up dropping down to the Championship, it’s certainly hard to imagine a player of Van de Ven’s calibre staying there.

Chelsea linked with other defenders

Chelsea will surely sign a new defender this summer and one name they’ve been linked with a few times is Nottingham Forest’s Murillo, as per TEAMtalk.

We’ve also previously had Newcastle’s Sven Botman mentioned as someone CFC are keeping an eye on.
