A potential Bristol City striker target has been identified
Bristol City are interested in signing AJ Auxerre striker Lassine Sinayoko in the summer transfer window but only if the French club drop their £4 million asking price, according to a report from Bristol Live.
Sinayoko has spent his entire senior career with Auxerre and scored eight goals in 34 league games last season to help the club win promotion to the French top-flight as second-tier Champions.
He has also been capped 19 times at senior international level by Mali, scoring five goals for his country, which includes featuring at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.
Now it seems as though that form is starting to attract interest from the Championship, with the transfer market open.
As per this latest update, Bristol City are interested in a potential deal to sign Sinayoko from Auxerre this summer.
However, it is claimed that the Robins are yet to make an official bid for the striker, although they have apparently made enquiries into his availability.
Despite that, it is thought that they will not be bringing Sinayoko to Ashton Gate this summer, unless Auxerre lower their asking price.
The newly promoted Ligue 1 side are expected to demand a fee in the region of £4million for the signing of Sinayoko this summer.
As things stand, there are just 12 months remaining on the striker's contract with Auxerre, securing his future in France until the end of next season.
That could mean that this summer proves to be their last chance to cash in on him, if he does not sign a new deal, and it is suggested that Sinayoko could attract interest from other clubs too.
For their part, Bristol City are so far yet to make a signing since the start of this summer's transfer window.
Last season, Liam Manning's side claimed an 11th-place finish in the Championship table, finishing 11 points adrift of the play-off places, and 12 clear of the relegation zone.
It does look as though the signing of Sinayoko would be a useful signing for the Robins if they were able to get it done.
Bristol City certainly look as though they are in need of some reinforcements in attack this summer, and that does seem to be high on their agenda.
Bringing in someone such as Sinayoko, who can operate in a number of forward roles, means they would be getting a player who can do an important job for them.
Indeed, having won promotion this season, while also impressing on the international stage at the Africa Cup of Nations, the 24-year-old could be more than capable of making an impact for the Robins.
While his price may be high at the minute, his contract situation may increase the pressure on Auxerre to sell this summer if he does not agree a new deal.
That in turn, could potentially see the asking price drop to an affordable level for Bristol City, then Auxerre can ensure they get something for him, rather than losing him for nothing next year.
