Remo and Flamengo meet in the Brasileirão at the Mangueirão, returning to the venue of their last Belém meeting in 2013, when both squads were far leaner.

According to Globo.com, Remo were outside the national league that year, fell to Paragominas in the Parazão and played only five further matches after the first leg.

Their side was largely unknown nationally, drawn from the lower tiers. Up front were Leandro Cearense and Val Barreto, nicknamed Valotelli in homage to Mario Balotelli’s Milan exploits that year.

Flamengo’s group was also modest compared with today. Jorginho led a frontline of Gabriel, Rafinha and Hernane Brocador, who hit 36 that season. The club won the Copa do Brasil but ended two points above relegation in the league.

In Belém the first leg finished 1-0 to Flamengo.

Before the break Remo missed clear chances and Léo Moura went off injured. On 11 minutes of the second half, Rafinha beat two on the left, surged into the box and found the top corner.

Flamengo chased a second to avoid a return, but profligacy kept it 1-0. They then completed the job in Rio with a 3-0 win.

They meet again at 16:00 on Sunday at the Mangueirão in the 26th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Remo are fighting the drop and Flamengo are chasing top spot.
