Conti wrote and posted a long and touching letter to Roma on Instagram: “The first photo is from my Serie A debut, Roma-Torino on February 10, 1974. On that day, along with my joy, there was above all that of my father, a great Roma fan. I want to thank him and my mother for all the sacrifices they made to raise seven children, always giving us love, values, and support.”

“The last photo on the pitch is from May 23, 1991, the day I said goodbye to football. Seeing more than eighty thousand people at the stadium and finding myself kneeling under the Curva Sud is an image I will always carry in my heart.”

“To you, who have accompanied me on this journey, I can only say thank you. A special thanks goes to all the people who have worked and continue to work for Roma every day: from the concierge to the warehouse workers, from the drivers to the boarding school, from the technical staff to the secretariat, right down to the scouts.”

“If I wasn’t able to say goodbye to everyone personally, I apologize, but you know well, the reason: I’ve always been a bit of a weepy person. Thanks to my great captain, Agostino Di Bartolomei, for the way he welcomed me from day one, making me feel immediately part of the family.”

The former Roma player, coach, and director continued: “Thanks to Presidents Dino Viola, Gaetano Anzalone, Franco Sensi, Rosella Sensi, James Pallotta, and Dan Friedkin for the trust and support they have shown me over the years.”

“A special thanks to my great mentor Nils Liedholm and President Dino Viola: together we shared unforgettable moments, winning a Scudetto and reaching the European Cup final. Rosella, thank you for the years we spent together, first as coach and then as technical director. I love you. I chose to send these thanks because I don’t want to talk about myself: I’ll let you do that.”

And finally: “I can only say that, right or wrong, everything I’ve done, I’ve done for the love of Roma. Now it’s time to enjoy my family, who have always been by my side with love and patience along the way. Because after football, the best place to return to is always family. See you at the stadium, always cheering on our beloved AS Roma. With love, Bruno.”
