Bruno Fuchs has recovered from a right thigh injury sustained in early May and on Tuesday began on-pitch transition work with Palmeiras’ health and performance staff, leaving him close to a return, according to Globo.com.
Palmeiras first host Junior Barranquilla at 19:00 on Thursday, a tie that will decide qualification for the Libertadores round of 16.
Attention then turns to the weekend meeting with Chapecoense, the final fixture before the Copa pause, with Palmeiras short of options. In defence, Gómez will be away with Paraguay and Benedetti remains injured.
Also suspended for that match are Carlos Miguel, Andreas Pereira and Giay, alongside any called up players. Jhon Arias is already confirmed with Colombia and Piquerez is in Montevideo, Uruguay. Gómez, Paraguay’s captain, will be in their squad, while Ramón Sosa, Flaco López, Giay and Emiliano Martínez remain possibilities.
Elsewhere in the squad, Ramón Sosa continued his transition programme, while Paulinho completed a full session with team-mates.
At the Academia de Futebol, the squad carried out muscle activation in the Excellence Centre, then switched to the pitch for tactical work on build-up, playing out, marking and positioning. The session under the coaching staff lasted one and a half hours.
