Palmeiras face Vasco on Sunday at 16:00 Brasília time at Nubank Parque, a meeting shaped by the Lamacchia family’s shifting influence. According to Globo.com, Marcos Faria Lamacchia is in talks to buy Vasco’s SAF, while his father José Roberto powered Palmeiras through Crefisa for almost a decade.

Marcos, son of José Roberto and Junia Faria, works independently in investments. Talks accelerated late last year after an earlier bid by his father stalled without agreement with 777 Partners.

The family maintain a long-standing friendship with Vasco president Pedrinho. Marcos now fronts the negotiations, with José Roberto acting as guarantor.

Leila Pereira, Palmeiras president and José Roberto’s wife, has kept her distance from the process. José Roberto has said any help from her to Vasco would only be possible once she leaves the Palmeiras presidency.

Palmeiras’ tie-up with Crefisa was unveiled on 22 January 2015 during a financial and administrative rebuild. Silverware followed, the Copa do Brasil in 2015 under Marcelo Oliveira, then the Brasileiro in 2016 with Cuca.

Investment deepened, bringing another league title in 2018 and a renewed deal in 2019 under Maurício Galiotte. After a trophyless first year, the club hired Abel Ferreira, who delivered the 2020 Paulista, Copa do Brasil and Libertadores, then beat Flamengo to retain the Libertadores in 2021.

Leila was elected in December 2021, becoming the club’s first woman president. Under her, Palmeiras won the 2022 and 2023 Brasileiros, the 2023 Supercopa and the 2022 Recopa.

The Crefisa partnership ended in 2024, a period the club later labelled the ‘Crefisa and FAM era’. Sportingbet then became master sponsor of the men’s and women’s teams until December 2027, worth about R$ 100 million a year.

As Palmeiras move on without Crefisa, the Lamacchias could now begin a new chapter at Vasco with Marcos leading the SAF talks.
