Bruno Lopes has joined Renato Gaúcho’s first training sessions at CT Moacyr Barbosa, with the 18-year-old under assessment as Vasco seek solutions up front.

According to Globo.com, the new head coach has been running near-daily fitness tests and offering positional guidance, particularly to his attackers.

Vasco have the least potent attack among the 20 Série A clubs in 2026, with 14 goals in 13 matches. The sale of Rayan, decisive across 2025, left a gap and heaped pressure on signings Brenner, Marino Hinestroza and Spinelli, who are still adapting.

That search for alternatives could open a pathway for Bruno to stake a claim as a bench option for the senior side.

In 2025 he featured in five Campeonato Carioca games under Fábio Carille without scoring, and he has not played for the first team since, though he trained at times under Fernando Diniz. This season he has five matches for the under-20s, scoring four goals.

Regarded as a leading academy prospect, Bruno renewed his deal at the start of the year to December 2029, with a 60 million euro clause, R$ 377.8 million at the current rate. He is valued for mobility and strength, operating centrally and from wide areas.

He could be named in the squad for Thursday’s Brasileirão meeting with Palmeiras at São Januário, Renato’s debut in the dugout, with kick-off at 19h30, de Brasília.
