A number of statistics have emerged, underlining just how quickly Bryan Mbeumo has made himself indispensable to Manchester United.
Mbeumo hasn’t looked out of place even for a moment since joining United during the summer transfer window from Brentford.
United brought him in as part of their overhaul of the attacking department, forking out an initial £65m to snap him up ahead of other interested parties. He has been incredible for the club. Mbeumo is currently United’s leading goalscorer with five Premier League goals and six across all competitions. He has also provided one assist.
The Cameroonian has made United’s right channel a dangerous avenue of attack. He has particularly struck a deadly partnership with Amad. Even more astounding is that Mbeumo seems to be equally impactful on the left.
Ruben Amorim used him on this side of the pitch during the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur and he was superb, even finding the back of the net to break the deadlock.
Mbeumo’s performances in October earned him a hat trick of individual awards. He warded off stiff competition to win United’s Player of the Month award, the Premier League equivalent and the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month prize.
Ahead of Monday’s clash with Everton at Old Trafford, United pointed to several key Premier League statistics in which Mbeumo currently leads.
Aside from being United’s top scorer, Mbeumo has also made the joint-most appearances this term, alongside Bruno Fernandes, Benjamin Sesko and Matthijs de Ligt.
Statisticians Opta [via United] reveal that Mbeumo’s off-ball running is the highest in the Premier League so far. He boasts a jaw-dropping 169 runs in behind defences. No other player has made more. Ollie Watkins (146), Viktor Gyokeres (120) and Mohamed Salah (114) are trailing Mbeumo.
The 26-year-old United forward has made 105 off-ball runs into the attacking third in the Premier League. He is joined by Florian Wirtz (Liverpool) and Gyokeres, who have also registered the same number.
When it comes to expected assists (xA), Bryan Mbeumo also tops the Premier League leaderboard. He has logged 2.54, which puts him ahead of Jack Grealish (2.48) and Kieran Dewsbury-Hall (2.45).
Finally, only Manchester City striker Erling Haaland (14) has scored more open-play goals than Mbeumo’s five.
Mbeumo and United’s meeting with Everton kicks off at 8pm.
