Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo has shared details of his developing relationship on the pitch with Bruno Fernandes.
Mbeumo and Fernandes have undoubtedly been United talismans this season as the club pushes for a top-four finish and subsequently a return to the Champions League.
The pair have notched a superb 12 Premier League goals between them so far this term.
During last weekend’s dominant 2-0 win over Manchester City, supporters were offered an exciting glimpse of the potential Mbeumo-Fernandes partnership under Michael Carrick.
In what was Carrick’s first game in charge since his appointment as caretaker boss, the United legend restored Fernandes to his more natural playmaker role while he deployed Mbeumo in the number nine position, preferring him to Benjamin Sesko. The two calls worked a treat!
Mbeumo and Fernandes were a constant threat throughout, combining brilliantly for United’s opening goal. The move ignited when Mbeumo’s clever touch bypassed Rayan Cherki, launching a lethal counter-attack. Fernandes then delivered a sublime ball for Mbeumo, who capped off the brilliant team move with a sensational finish.
Patrick Dorgu would go on to score a second goal and secure the victory for the Red Devils.
Ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Arsenal at the Emirates, Mbeumo spoke to Sky Sports and offered insight into his developing chemistry with Fernandes.
The Cameroonian also spoke about Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro and revealed what life has been like since Carrick walked through the door.
Mbeumo told Sky, “Everyone knows Bruno’s quality. He’s a very good player who can make great passes and always makes the good choices on the ball.”
He added, “I always try to do the best for him to give him the ball or to create space for another one.”
On Mainoo, Mbeumo remarked, “Before I came, I heard about him [Mainoo] a lot. And obviously, his performance this weekend [was brilliant]. I was not surprised.”
He said about Casemiro, whose United exit was confirmed earlier this week, “He’s a big legend. I’m very happy to come here , in Manchester, and play with these kind of players.”
Mbeumo explained that there has been a notable shift in mood and mentality at Carrington following Carrick’s appointment.
“It’s a new energy. The training sessions have a different focus, and the mentality within the group has evolved.”
“Having a manager who is a legend of this club commands immense respect. It pushes everyone—you want to give your absolute best for him and for the badge.”
Arsenal vs. United kicks off at 4.30 pm.
