Manchester United’s new signing Bryan Mbeumo has opened up on his captain Bruno Fernandes.
After complex negotiations with Brentford, Mbeumo finally arrived in July to Old Trafford.
The Cameroon international opened his goalscoring account in the League Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.
He then added his second goal versus Burnley but failed to find the back of the net in September.
The attacker has been one of United’s better players this season however, causing numerous problems against most defences and was one of the stronger performers versus Manchester City and Chelsea.
Mbeumo’s teammate, Bruno Fernandes, has certainly had a mixed season to date to say the least.
Many pundits have criticised Ruben Amorim’s decision to persist with playing the attacking midfielder so deep in the midfield, with many feeling it nullifies his best qualities.
He has scored two goals this season, including a last minute winner versus Burnley.
Nonetheless, he has also missed two crucial penalties in away matches versus Fulham and Brentford.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Mbeumo has argued that United’s players must not always rely on Fernandes but also support him in difficult times.
He claimed, “it’s important to support him because this is what he’s doing every time. “I think it’s normal for us to carry him as well sometimes because he gives us a lot, and it’s good for him to have us as well.”
United have certainly asked a lot of Fernandes over his five years at the club as he has arguably been the club’s only consistent performer during that time.
Supporters of the side will hope that the Portugal star will soon return to the form of the player that has captured their imagination so many times in recent years.
