Buchan Girls Under 14s have secured vital new equipment after being nominated for a prize giveaway from SWPL Principal Partner ScottishPower by Aberdeen Women captain Hannah Stewart.
The donation forms part of ScottishPower’s ongoing commitment to helping community football teams thrive by supplying essential equipment that promotes participation and inclusion at every level of the women’s game.
ScottishPower, the leading renewable energy company sponsors both Scottish Women’s Football and the Scottish Women’s Premier League.
Pledging to support each level of football, the prime sponsor has sent kit packages to six women’s clubs. The packages include: bibs, cones, water bottles and PUMA football suitable for the U14s. To reduce financial barriers for young girls trying to break into the game, ten pairs of boots will be supplied.
As part of their campaign, ScottishPower invited SWPL1 and SWPL2 players who progressed through the grassroots pathway to nominate local clubs that shaped their footballing journey.
Stewart, who recently put pen to paper on a two-year extension with the Dons, nominated Buchan Girls. As the club where she started her footballing journey, she believed they deserved the equipment. The Aberdeen captain visited the young girl’s at a training session to tell them the news. The girl’s also received tickets to see Stewart play in Aberdeen’s next match.
“It’s really nice to come back and see how the club has grown”, she said “When I started playing there weren’t that many clubs to choose from but now the number of girls able to play football across the region is massive. It just shows it’s going in the right direction.
“Having the right facilities and the right kit, like ScottishPower are providing, can make the world of difference to players.”

Jamie Wilson, coach of Buchan U14s, said: “We’ve got over 200 girls playing football at Buchan from under 6s all the way to u16s. That shows you the appetite for the game in the north east.
“This group of players really deserve all the support we can give them. They train in the rain, they train in the snow, and if we can help them go all the way to elite football, then we’d be delighted.”
Keith Anderson, Chief Executive of ScottishPower, said: “We want to energise women’s football for both current and future generations and build a community of players that inspire even more people to play and enjoy the game.
“Grassroots football is the heartbeat of our communities. We’re proud to play our part in helping these clubs continue to inspire, develop talent, and bring people together.”
