Napoli defender Alessandro Buongiorno admitted that something ‘went wrong’ against Atalanta but that they want to immediately ‘get back on track’ against Inter next week.

The Partenopei fell to their second Serie A defeat of the season, as La Dea came away with all three points from the Stadio Diego Maradona after an impressive display inspired them to a 3-0 win.

While it was surprising to see the current leaders losing so clearly, Buongiorno said that Conte made it clear to them that a single slip-up shouldn’t be enough to discourage the Partenopei, as they are presented with an immediate chance to prove their worth in their San Siro’s fixture against Inter next weekend, which will put the Serie A summit at stake.

Buongiorno: what Conte told Napoli after Atalanta defeat

“When you lose games like this, it means something went wrong; we need to keep our heads up and get back on track starting from the next match,” the 25-year-old defender told Radio Kiss Kiss, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.

“Conte said we shouldn’t have been deluded before when we were winning, and we shouldn’t be discouraged now.

“We need to keep working and growing because there’s plenty of room for improvement. We should focus only on that and on our next game. Inter are a very strong team, but we’ll prepare as best we can to take the three points.

“There will be challenges, but we’ll be ready.”

Antonio Conte admitted Atalanta are ‘stronger’ than Napoli as he commented on his side’s defeat after the game, while Gian Piero Gasperini praised La Dea’s ‘remarkable’ performance that put the Nerazzurri among the Scudetto contenders.
