Burkina Faso remain in Casablanca and Saturday’s friendly against Argentina is in doubt with less than 24 hours to kick-off. The game is scheduled for 21:00 in Buenos Aires.
The Burkina Faso federation said in a statement that the AFA failed to meet some requested conditions and that their charter flight was cancelled without notice on 30 September.
The squad were due to arrive on Tuesday 29 September at night but have not travelled. They remain in Morocco, which has a three-hour time difference, and rerouting options have raised player concerns over the journey’s length.
If the issues are not resolved in the coming hours, the match would have to be called off given the travel time and lack of rest.
Burkina Faso, ranked 62nd by FIFA and 12th in Africa, drew 1-1 with Benín on Friday 25 September and beat Central African Republic 1-0 in 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.
Argentina beat Bolivia 4-0 in Córdoba, and El Monumental will operate at 50 percent capacity after a FIFA sanction that also affected Mario Alberto Kempes.
Lionel Messi landed in Rosario on Friday morning with his family and is focused on Tuesday 6 October’s friendly against Benín in Núñez, scheduled as his official farewell to the national team.
