Senne Lammens 5 – Couldn’t do much for Burnley’s opener. Well and truly beaten by Jaidon Anthony for the hosts’ second of the evening.

Diogo Dalot 4 – Didn’t offer enough, especially going forward.

Ayden Heaven 5 – Unfortunate to score an own goal but otherwise decent and came close to scoring from a corner-kick routine.

Lisandro Martinez 7 – Looked to have drawn United level but his strike was ruled out after he was harshly judged to have fouled Kyle Walker. Outstanding as usual on the ball, the highlight of which was a stunning over-the-top ball to Bruno Fernandes that nearly resulted in a goal.

Luke Shaw 6 – Lively down the left side and linked up well with Patrick Dorgu.

Manuel Ugarte 6.5 – Another strong shift, seeing a lot of the ball and recycling it effectively. His most dangerous moments came when he drove through the Burnley midfield, and he was unlucky not to score with a powerful shot from outside the box.

Casemiro 2 – Poor again. Wasteful in possession and overrun in midfield. A net negative to the team on current form.

Bruno Fernandes 8 – Influential! How United had missed him. Pulled the strings on being restored to a more natural playmaker role, and he didn’t disappoint. Created several chances before finally registering a brilliant assist for Benjamin Sesko. Almost got on the score sheet himself but was just denied by the post.

Patrick Dorgu 7 – An outlet on the flank and a brilliant assist for Sesko to temporarily give United the lead at Turf Moor.

Matheus Cunha 4 – On the periphery for large parts of the game.

Benjamin Sesko 9 – Took both his goals extremely well, making very intelligent runs, to turn assists from Fernandes and Dorgu. Had other chances to make it a hat-trick.

Substitutes

Mason Mount 5 – Just OK.

Leny Yoro 6 – Picked up where Heaven left off and looked a lot better than he has in recent weeks.

Kobbie Mainoo 6 – A hugely encouraging cameo, registering clean touches and sharp passing to help United maintain pressure on Burnley during the search for a winner

Joshua Zirkzee 5 – Didn’t really make a difference.

Shea Lacey 7 – A very positive sub by Darren Fletcher to bring him on with eight minutes of regular time left on the clock. It almost instantly paid off as the youngster expertly cut in and curled a ball that seemed destined for the top corner, only to be thwarted by the woodwork. Tried again late on and wasn’t too far off.
