The Clarets need to strengthen in several key areas ahead of the Championship season.

It has been a relatively slow summer for Burnley as they prepare for their return to the Championship, but now it could double in pace.

The Clarets were without a manager for several months after Scott Parker departed the club before their relegation from the Premier League, but new boss Nicky Hayen has now been tasked with mounting a promotion challenge.

Several key players have departed Turf Moor, including Maxime Esteve, Jaidon Anthony and Martin Dubravka, meaning there are several areas that need strengthening before the start of the campaign.

Now, Burnley have been linked with a swoop for two players, and one of them has come in for significant praise for his performances in the EFL.

The Clarets will certainly be among the favourites for the Championship title next season, but the club clearly has plenty of work to do if they are to achieve their goals.

Not only have several first-team players left Turf Moor, but the manager must ensure that his squad all buy into his vision and take on board his philosophy heading into the opener against West Ham in mid-August.

In terms of arrivals, Burnley have signed Florentino as the club had the obligation to make his switch permanent for a reported £20.8million following his season-long loan from Benfica.

However, he could be set to depart the club already and has been linked with a move to newly promoted Hull City as they build a squad ready for the Premier League.

Now, Burnley are eyeing a double swoop for QPR centre-back Ronnie Edwards and Lille defensive-midfielder Ugo Raghouber, according to Darren Witcoop.

It is unknown how long Edwards has remaining on his current deal at Loftus Road, having made 17 appearances since securing a permanent deal from Southampton last summer.

As for Raghouber, he has just a year remaining on his deal with Lille but has made just two senior appearances for the club after a string of loan spells.

Although only 23, Edwards has significant EFL experience under his belt, having made 87 League One appearances for Peterborough United and 83 Championship appearances for Posh, QPR and Southampton.

When Edwards arrived at Saints from Peterborough, manager Russell Martin offered the defender tremendous praise even though things never worked out on the South Coast.

"Ronnie is a supremely talented footballer with a lot of games already under his belt and a healthy level of experience, even at 21 years of age," Martin told the club's website.

Last season, the 23-year-old demonstrated his ability as a natural ball-playing centre-half, ranking in the top six per cent of Championship players in his position for percentage of successful passes and accurate long balls completed, according to Fotmob.

As for Raghouber, a lack of opportunities for Lille meant he spent the second half of last season with La Liga side Levante, where he made 16 appearances, nine of which were starts.

The defensive-midfielder produced some encouraging underlying statistics while in Spain, ranking in the top 10 per cent of La Liga players in his position for percentage of successful dribbles, duels and aerial duels won.

He predominantly plays as a deep-lying number six and has built a reputation as a disciplined ball-winner who has the technical ability to start attacks from deep.
