Nantes forward Herba Guirassy is on Burnley's radar in the final week of the transfer window

Burnley are interested in raiding French outfit Nantes FC for forward Herba Guirassy ahead of next week's transfer deadline, according to reports.

The Clarets have not got off to the best start in their return to the Championship after another year away in the top flight of English football, mustering up just a singular point from their first two fixtures.

New head coach Nicky Hayen masterminded a comeback from two goals down to draw 2-2 at home to West Ham on the opening weekend of the season, before his side went down 3-1 away at West Brom this past Sunday.

Clearly, moves need to be made before the door slams shut on the transfer window on Tuesday night at 11pm GMT, and one position where the Lancashire outfit are seemingly looking is at left-wing.

According to a report from French outlet FootMercato, Burnley are said to be 'monitoring' the situation of Nantes FC winger Herba Guirassy, whose side are struggling after relegation from Ligue 1 last season.

Head coach Michel Der Zakarian was sacked after just three matches in charge, and he has been replaced by Gregory Poirier in the dugout of the Stade de la Beaujoire - that is no slight on the performances of Guirassy though, who has scored once already this season.

A Nantes academy graduate and a France under-21 international, Guirassy - who is right-footed and operates off the left flank - made his breakthrough into the first-team in the 2024-25 season, appearing 19 times in Ligue 1 action and scoring twice for La Maison Jaune, and he followed that up with a further 20 league matches played in 2025-26, with another two goals scored in what ended up being a campaign that culminated in relegation to Ligue 2.

Burnley are now 'considering' testing Nantes' resolve over the 19-year-old, who is still contracted at the club for another two years, and he's reported to be 'open' to making the trip across the English Channel and playing on British shores.

Unlike two years ago when considerably more was done to help build Scott Parker a new squad capable of winning promotion back to the Premier League, Burnley's transfer dealings of the summer of 2026 have been more modest.

The loan market has been explored to sign Premier League youngsters Max Alleyne and Dastan Satpayev, two players have arrived from France in the form of midielder Ugo Raghouber and goalkeeper Gregoire Coudert for modest sums, whilst the headline arrival has been Feyenoord centre-back Anel Ahmedhodzic.

A number of first-teamers have been cashed in on for eight-figure fees - Maxime Esteve, Florentino, Jaidon Anthony, Loum Tchaouna and Luca Koleosho have raked in considerable sums for owner Alan Pace, but the sales may not end there, with the future of centre-forward Zian Flemming very much in the air as clubs circle for the Dutchman.

It's clear from the opening two Championship results that more needs to be done in the transfer window, and a move for Guirassy could represent a bolstering of the attacking unit of Hayen.

Burnley are not exactly short of winger options right now, especially for the left flank, with Jacob Bruun Larsen and Jaydon Banel both naturals out there (when fit, with the latter currently sidelined), whilst new Chelsea recruit Dastan Satpayev, whilst naturally a centre-forward, has already played plenty out wide for previous club Kairat Almaty.

Bruun Larsen may not be a Claret beyond the end of the transfer window though, with speculation rife for the last month that he's heading to FC Kobenhavn in Denmark, in which case a replacement would be needed if he were to depart.

Guirassy doesn't have a massive amount of experience, as a 19-year-old wouldn't, but the fact he's played 39 times in the top flight of French football suggests that there's some serious potential there to develop.

We've seen Burnley go down this route for the last few years - the aforementioned names of Koleosho and Tchaouna arrived as young wingers, one very much cheaper than the other, and both have been sold on for good fees, and the same could happen for Guirassy, if the Clarets are going to make their move.
