BVB wants Soumaïla Coulibaly back for the Club World Cup

Borussia Dortmund would like to bring Soumaïla Coulibaly back for the Club World Cup, as Sky Sports journalist Patrick Berger reported. The player's entourage recently held talks in Dortmund; however, an agreement with loan club Stade Brestois 29 would also be required in order for the BVB academy talent to return.

With Nico Schlotterbeck's season-ending injury earlier last month, Borussia Dortmund is depleted in depth at central defense, especially since Niko Kovač has adopted a back-three system in recent weeks. Now, without Nico and Filippo Mané also leaving injured from the Borussia Dortmund II weekend match, there is a need for at least one other defender in the first team squad.

Another possibility is Mats Hummels returning from retirement, as it has been reported that it would be one of the alternatives Dortmund is considering at the moment. However, Hans-Joachim Watzke claimed in a recent interview that Hummels would become a hotter topic only if someone else gets injured before the Club World Cup.

With the season ending approaching, the Black and Yellows will have to move faster in this summer transfer window, as the World Cup is on June 14th. Borussia Dortmund is in Group F with Brazilian side Fluminense, Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa, and Korean Ulsan HD FC.

In the light of such a unique event in the football calendar, Soumaïla Coulibaly could be seen wearing Black and Yellow once again after getting regular minutes at Brest this season. He played 1.074 minutes in 15 games between Ligue 1 and the Champions League with no goals or assists.
