From the outset, spectators at the stadium were treated to a very evenly matched but hard-fought game. After around 15 minutes of play, Dortmund had their first chance on goal. Jenkse Steenwijk sent in a sharp cross from the right, and Ronja Leubner narrowly missed the target shortly afterwards. Her shot went just wide of the left post. Just five minutes later, there was danger at the other end. But keeper Laura van der Laan was on hand to clear a header from inside the five-yard box off the line.

In the 28th minute, Borussia were unlucky when Nora Willeke’s shot from Steenwijk’s cross rebounded off the left post and out of play. After half an hour, the BVB women had a slight advantage in terms of chances. However, there were no goals in the first half.

After the break, Borussia increasingly took control of the game, with the home side unable to carve out any more clear-cut chances. Down the other end, Högner’s team made the most of their opportunities. In the 62nd minute, the Hertha keeper was able to parry a dangerous cross from substitute Schumacher, but the ball fell to Marah Tayeh, who laid it off to Lucy Wisniewski in the middle. Wisniewski slotted the ball into the net to give her side a 1-0 lead.

Just five minutes later, Nova Wicke made it 2-0. The number 27 shot at goal from around 18 metres and buried the ball in the bottom left corner. Wisniewski scored her second goal of the day just before the final whistle. Mia Böger’s cross from the right found Wisniewski unmarked in the six-yard box. She made no mistake with the header to bring the score to 3-0.

Next week, the BVB women will face Japanese side Cerezo Osaka in their next friendly. The game will take place on Saturday (26 July) at 15:00 CEST at the BVB training ground in Dortmund-Brackel.
