Mamelodi Sundowns have advanced to the CAF Champions League group stage for the 11 consecutive season after defeating Nigeria’s Remo Stars 2-0 in 2nd leg of their second preliminary round tie at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The result completed 7-1 aggregate triumph following the 5-1 first leg win in Abeokuta and underlined the South African champions status as one of Africa’s most consistent and feared clubs.

Match summary

Sundowns were in control from the outset. Portuguese midfielder Nuno Santos opened the scoring in the 20 minute with precise low finish after quick team move.

Just before halftime, Namibian striker Peter Shalulile doubled the advantage heading home well delivered set piece from Aubrey Modiba effectively ending any remote hopes of Nigerian comeback.

The second half saw Sundowns ease into game management mode dominating possession while keeping Remo Stars pinned back. Despite spirited defensive work from the visitors, they struggled to create chances registering just one shot on target all evening.

What it mean?

With this win .. Sundowns extended their unbeaten run to 6 match in all competition under coach Cardoso.

The team now awaits champions league group stage draw on 3 Nov 2025 .. as they aim to surpass their 2016 title winning streak and once again compete for continental glory.
