The race for quarter-final qualification tickets in the 2025 CAF Champions League is set to be fiercely contested.

Several underdogs made a strong impression on the opening day of the group stage, notably Stade Malien, who secured a draw on their challenging trip to Tunisia against Espérance.

The Malian champions will be looking to confirm their fine form in the second matchday against Tanzanian side Simba.

Below are the four key matchups to watch in the second round of the CAF Champions League.

AS FAR - Al Ahly

With their backs against the wall after losing to Tanzanian side Young Africans on the opening day, the Moroccan giants will look to get back into the qualification race.

Their task will be anything but easy against an Al Ahly team that is rediscovering its best form under new Danish coach Jess Thorup.

MC Alger – Mamelodi Sundowns

The Algiers club is also under pressure to bounce back after their opening-day defeat to Sudanese side Al Hilal.

The Algerian football giants will need to be at their very best to overcome a South African team renowned for their rapid attacking style.

Petro Atlético – Espérance de Tunis

Espérance, for their part, will look to make amends against Petro Atlético after failing to beat Stade Malien in their opening match.

The four-time champions face a tough challenge against an Angolan side that is ruthless on home soil.

Saint-Éloi Lupopo – Al Hilal

After losing to Mamelodi Sundowns on matchday one, the Congolese giants will be aiming for all three points against their Sudanese opponents.
