CAF launches disciplinary proceedings after Nigeria–Algeria
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched an investigation following incidents at the end of the 2025 AFCON quarter-final between Nigeria and Algeria, played in Marrakech.
After the Super Eagles' 2-0 victory, tensions flared on the pitch. Algerian players strongly protested the officiating and surrounded referee Issa Sy, prompting intervention from security forces. There were also reports of unrest in the stands, with Algerian supporters attempting to break through barriers.
According to multiple eyewitness accounts, further incidents occurred in the mixed zone, where journalists were allegedly confronted by colleagues. CAF is currently reviewing official reports from referees, security, and the media. Disciplinary action could be announced in the coming days.
