The Confederation of African Football has left the door open to FIFA’s plan to sell World Cup stakes, and will study the proposal.
In a statement, CAF said it has received the submission and will examine and evaluate the proposed ‘FIFA Forward Enterprise’ initiative next week at its Executive Committee.
CAF also invited its Member Associations to review the proposal and take part in the consultation process. It said the aim is to continue consultations, work closely with stakeholders and support increased financial and other resources for the development and growth of football in Africa and worldwide.
FIFA and president Infantino would consider selling stakes in the World Cup to private investors. On Wednesday, he defended the project, presenting it as an opportunity rather than an obligation.
CAF is the first confederation not to oppose the plan publicly, while UEFA and CONCACAF have set out clear objections.
