UEFA Champions League | League Stage | Stamford Bridge
Goal: Caicedo (78)
Chelsea kept their Champions League campaign alive, but only just, as Pafos pushed the London side deep into frustration before a late breakthrough at Stamford Bridge.

For long periods, this felt like one of those European nights that can spiral into embarrassment. Dominant in possession but short on incision, Chelsea struggled to turn territorial control into meaningful chances against disciplined opposition making their competition debut.
The hosts thought they had taken an early lead in the 17th minute when Enzo Fernandez headed home, only for the goal to be controversially ruled out for a push on Derrick Luckassen. It was a decision that drew loud protests from the home crowd and set the tone for an increasingly edgy evening.
Pafos, far from overawed, almost stunned Stamford Bridge moments earlier. A sharp counter attack ended with Jaja striking the post after the ball deflected off Reece James’ hand inside the area, prompting strong appeals for a penalty that were waved away.
Chelsea continued to probe, but clear chances were rare. Defender Jorrel Hato went close just before the break, denied from close range by an outstanding save from goalkeeper Jay Gorter, who was rapidly becoming the standout figure on the pitch.
There was more urgency after half time. Teenage winger Estevao Willian was introduced and immediately injected energy, volleying a spectacular first time effort that finally lifted the crowd and shifted momentum in Chelsea’s favour.
The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 78th minute. Pedro Neto’s corner flicked off substitute Nany Dimata and dropped invitingly for Moises Caicedo, who reacted quickest to dive forward and head home from close range. It was a rare attacking contribution from the midfielder, but one that carried enormous significance.
Chelsea saw out the closing stages without further alarm to secure three vital points. The win keeps their hopes of finishing in the top eight alive, though the margins remain fine.
With qualification still unresolved, Chelsea now face a defining trip to Napoli on the final matchday, where victory may be required to avoid the uncertainty of the play off round. Against Pafos, the job was done, but the performance served as a reminder that progress in this competition will demand sharper execution and greater conviction.
