Callum McGregor speaks exclusively to Celtic TV

Celtic captain, Callum McGregor took time out from the team’s pre-season preparation to talk exclusively to Celtic TV ahead of the club’s trip to the United States

The team jet out today (Tuesday) for the three games against Manchester City, Chelsea and DC United ahead of their return to competitive action and the defence of the Premiership title, starting with the visit of Kilmarnock on Sunday, August 4.

Speaking to Celtic TV, Callum McGregor said: “I think it’s great that the club are going over.

“We have a massive fan-base in the US as well, so it will be great to see everyone.

'They are always up watching the games, and celebrating when the team have success, so it’s brilliant for them to see us live.'

“It’s important that we go there and give a good account of ourselves and show them why they support Celtic and why it’s right for them to back us, and believe in us, so we’ve got an important job to do there as well with Celtic as the brand.

"And there are some brilliant games – Man City, Chelsea, DC United – all in great stadiums, all in great cities. So it’s a really exciting time and I can’t wait to get on the plane.”

Celtic begin their pre-season tour of the States at Audi Field on July 20, against MLS side DC United, a founding club of Major League Soccer back in 1995.

Then it will be the battle of the Scottish and English Champions in a mouth-watering tie just three days later when Brendan Rodgers' Celtic and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City battle it out at Kenan Stadium in North Carolina.

The sides met competitively twice during the 2016-17 UEFA Champions League campaign, with Brendan Rodgers’ side going undefeated against the might of Pep Guardiola.

The Celts will close out the tour on Saturday, July 27, against Premier League side, Chelsea as Enzo Maresca’s Londoners take on the Champions at Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana.
