Celtic skipper Callum McGregor opened the scoring as Brendan Rodgers’ side booked their place in the Scottish Cup Final. The 31-year-old earned the Man of the Match accolade as Celtic set up a meeting with Aberdeen in the showpiece Final next month.

In the excitement of the four goals in 12 minutes at the end of the first half, it may have been lost that Celtic matched a stat from Jock Stein’s legendary 1966/67 team. McGregor’s goal made him the seventh Celtic player to reach double figures for the campaign, the first time since the Quadruple winning team of 58 years.

The legendary Celtic side, which won the European Cup in Lisbon, were free-scoring as the conquered all before them domestically and in Europe. Brendan’s side will look to emulate Jock’s success domestically by winning a Treble before turning to next year’s European football.

The seven Celts from 1966/67 are: Joe McBride – 35 goals, Bobby Lennox 25 goals, Stevie Chalmers – 21 goals, Willie Wallace – 21 goals, Bertie Auld – 12 goals, Tommy Gemmell – 11 goals and Bobby Murdoch – 11 goals. You do wonder whether Celtic could add to that this campaign with Luke McCowan, Jota and Yang all close to breaking the ten goal barrier.
