Camara brace fires Rennes up to fifth at Auxerre

Rennes beat Auxerre 3-0 on Sunday at Stade de l'Abbé Deschamps, rising from seventh to fifth in Ligue 1 and into the Europa League places.
Mahdi Camara opened the scoring in the 20th minute, rifling into the top left from the centre of the box.
Estéban Lepaul doubled the lead shortly after, finishing a through ball from Sebastian Szymański (22.). On the stroke of first half stoppage time, Camara curled in a second to put Rennes out of sight (45.), with Mousa Al‑Taamari supplying the assist. Lepaul is second in Ligue 1's scoring charts this season on 12 goals.
Brice Samba preserved the clean sheet with two late stops, denying Lassine Sinayoko and then Josué Casimir in second half stoppage time.
Christophe Pélissier made four changes at the break for Auxerre, introducing Fredrik Oppegård, Marvin Senaya, Gideon Mensah and Casimir, but the hosts could not find a route back.
Rennes were clinical, registering seven shots on target from 12 attempts. Auxerre produced two efforts on target from 11 attempts. Rennes also controlled 56.9% possession. Auxerre's share was 43.1%.
Auxerre stay 16th in the relegation play-off place. Next, Auxerre visit Lorient. Rennes host Toulouse next.
