Cameron Carter-Vickers breaks silence on Martin O’Neill’s Celtic future amid growing pressure | OneFootball

Cameron Carter-Vickers insists Martin O’Neill retains the backing of the Celtic dressing room despite admitting the club’s recent results have not been good enough.

The Hoops have endured a damaging spell, losing twice to Rangers in the space of seven days with a 3-1 Europa League defeat against Ferencvaros sandwiched between the two derby setbacks.

Pressure has subsequently intensified around O’Neill, who revealed after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Celtic Park that he would take time to reflect on his own position.

However, Carter-Vickers has made it clear that the Celtic players remain firmly behind their manager and his coaching staff.

“All I can say is, as players, we’re behind the manager, behind the management team,” Carter-Vickers said.

“I think what he achieved last year was unbelievable and obviously, as a playing group, we’re grateful for him for that.

“So we’re still behind him and we’re going to do our best for him.”

While offering his support to O’Neill, the Celtic defender made no attempt to dismiss the growing frustration among supporters following the club’s recent performances.

“Well, 100% I do,” he said when asked if he understood why fans were beginning to question things.

“At the end of the day, it’s a results-based business and our results haven’t been good enough.

“So I completely understand it from a fan’s point of view, but again, it’s about us as players, and that together with the coaching staff, really nailing down what we want to be as a team and just working towards that day in, day out.”
