Hervaine Moukam has just made a deeply embarrassing statement about Cameroonian football.
Now playing for CS Sedan, Hervaine Moukam claimed he was asked for 10,000 euros (about 6.5 million FCFA) as a prerequisite for a call-up to join the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. The player recounted that during his strong run of form in Eastern Europe, between 2018 and 2020, individuals claiming to be close to the national team approached him to “facilitate” his integration into the Indomitable Lions.
“I was clearly told that if I wanted to be called up, I had to pay 10,000 euros. It was a man and a woman close to the staff who spoke to me. (…) It was very organized. Imagine, BATE Borisov even received the letter for the next national team camp. Like, ‘if you don’t believe we can do it, here’s the letter!’” Moukam revealed in an interview with Carré media.
A shocking revelation, but not an entirely new one in the context of Cameroonian football.
